State Literary Awards

The State Literary Awards were announced by the Directorate -General for Letters of Contemporary Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Sport.

 

Grand Prize Literature
The Grand Prize for Literature was awarded unanimously to literary critic Dimitris Raftopoulos for the entirety of his work. As Alexis Ziras, chairman of the committee noted, "is not the first time the Ministry of Culture awards the Grand Prize for Literature, since its introduction in 1992, to a literary critic. Nora Anagnostakis and Alexander Argyros had received it in the past. This time, however, this committee I have the honor to be chairman of unanimously decided to award the prize to a critic who is literally in the fray: Dimitris Raftopoulos... "

Best novel prize

The Prize for the best novel, by majority vote, went to Niki Anastasea for her work "A lot of snow in front of the house "(Polis publishers. According to the Committees reasoning the novel is “distinguished by the bold discursive timeliness of the issue of social violence and its impact on the lives of some of those involved... "according to writer Gtorgos Sympardis.
Short Story – Novella Prize
The Short Story- Novella Prize went toYannis Palavos for his work entitled "Joke"(Nefeli publications). "The joke is the third book of short stories by Yannis Palavos and includes seventeen stories. His, relatively young heroes, hailing from the author's birthplace or located in urban centers, express the taste leftform a cancelled present. The choice of the author not to support the development of the narrative beyond a few pages, rarely leaves incomplete or unfinished narrative episodes. The virtues of the book include provoking sentiment without surges and stylistic excesses, but with a tendency to condense and abstract. Combining realism with absurdity and subversive humor (which refers to the relationship of the author with comic books), delineates the borderline "between reality and that which abolishes it... Poetry Prize
The Poetry Prize, also by majority, went to Markos Meskos for his work entitled "Ransom"(Gabrielides publishers). "... Meskos (Edessa, 1935) has a long presence in Greek poetry nineteen collections and aggregate editions since 1958 and his first book. “Before death” and the very recent “The poems of the stairs” (2013), which also includes in an interesting way, like the firs,t poems that portend an end. Ascetic and lonesome in life, like people and their myths in the Macedonian landscape, Meskos develops through repeated variations, like folk music motifs of his homeland, images and emotions that come out of the stable relationship of his poetic imagination with the natural and human environment... Essay- Criticism Award
The Essay- Criticism Award was awarded by majority to Michalis Chrysanthopoulos for his work entitled "A hundred years passed and a boat. Greek Surrealism and the construction of tradition” (Agra Publications). "The Chrysanthopoulos' choice to focus his discuourse on the interwar years, and more specifically in the limbic 1930s, proves crucial for the development of his argument, since during this period the physiognomy of Greek surrealism was formed. At the same time, he is given the opportunity to juxtaspose the attempys of three poets to create their own version of tradition, through the fermentations and discussions that took place during that time, within the so-called "generation of the thirties." Chrysanthopoulos' discourse is original and has been done with sensitivity and critical acumen, the wording of his arguments are sound and accompanied by sufficient documentation, while making the obvious compositional skill and deep knowledge of his subject... Testimony - Biography - Chronicle - Travel Writing Award
By majority, the award went to Thodoris Kallifatidis for his work entitled "The past is not a dream"(Gavrielides editions). "... This is the personal record of the author's migratory course with directness and eloquence that allows the reader to follow along the troubled development of the postwar history of the country. From Molai Laconia and the Civil War of his childhood, to adolesence in Athens, Kallifatidis carries the burden of his father's "social convictions." He finds refuge in the Drama School of Karolos Koun, but military service hauls him back violently to harsh reality and forced him to emigrate to Sweden to be able to study and write freely. The work is written simply and directly, with authenticity, sensitivity and humor, beyond personal testimony for the Civil War year, it takes the reader to the atmosphere of a difficult era with sincere emotion and ultimately optimism... The Best Debuting Author Award was awarded bymajority to Christos Armandos Gezos for his work entitled "Unfulfilled fears" (Polytropon editions).
The Special Prize in Literature whose book significantly advances the dialogue on sensitive social issues, was unanimously awarded to Vasilis Ladas for his work entitled " Cricket Games” "(Gabrielides editions).


Distinctions
The Committee recommended that the State Prize for Literature award honors for their contribution to Greek literature to the magazines ' Paremvasis"
