Scents from Mt Athos in PAris

Journalists and staff of Corpus magazine conducted a three day tour of the monastic community of Mount Athos, gathering information on how monks prepare perfumes and incense.

The three journalists gathered gathering information on how monks prepare perfumes, incense, ethereal oils, and captured the processes in excellent pictures for the May edition of the magazine, in a first photographic approach of this unique endeavor.

The group also toured shops in Ouranoupolis that sold monastic goods to get a feel fro how such products are promoted in the areas adjacent to Mount Athos.

The endeavor is a joint venture between the tourism bureau of France and the Organization for Tourism Development of the Mount Athos Area. The former seeks to promote alternative activities that take place in Greece. The activities of the Corpus crew will be presented in Paris at a special event.

Meanwhile a second visit to the area will take place during Easter taking in, as well, the Byzantine monuments around Ouranoupolis, this time by Bulgarian tourism operators in a thematic presentation entitled “Monastic Goods & Jewelry.”

CORPUS is the first French, independent, bi-annual magazine to be completely devoted to beauty, the body and the mind. Corpus is an alternative to the very product-centered approach of many traditional magazines and will open its pages to new contributors: artists, sociologists, historians, philosophers, personalities of all horizons
