Olympiakos FC vice president and president of the Greek SuperLeague, Yiannis Moralis said that he will resign from his current posts in order to devote himself to Piraeus, as he will be running for mayor of Greece's largest port.
“Yiannis Moralis candidacy is a big victory for Piraeus. I put all my trust in him as he is suitable for the position and the responsibilities that come with it,” Olympiakos owner Vangelis Marinakis said.
Yiannis Moralis is the club's VP and current president of Superleague, the clubs union which organizes the football championship. Moralis will be running for mayor with the blessings of Olympiacos president, Vangelis Marinakis, who will run on Moralis’ ticket as a candidate for city councillor alongside with Petros Kokkalis.
For a long time there was speculation that Marinakis would run for mayor himself.
The elections are in less than two months and Moralis is expected to become the clear frontrunner, giving Michaloliakos a run for his money.
