LARCO Protesters Clash with Police
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Riot police used teargas to disperse protesting LARCO miners and metal workers that proceeded to take over the a national highway at 13.00 this afternoon, in protest over the possible shutdown of the company.
In the scuffle one protester suffered head wounds, while police proceeded with arrests of protesters.
Incidents began when protesters moved on to the highway attempting to block both sides of the road, but were denied by police.
After deliberations with the mayor of nearby Lokros it was agreed to close down the road symbolically for a few minutes, but the incidents were not avoided. Police attacked with tear gas and LARCO protesters hurled rocks and sticks at them.
Things have calmed down at this point, with a large police force denying protesters access to the Martino bridge.
