New rules for cars with foreign plates
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Deputy Minister Giorgos Mavraganis signed a ministerial decision setting new rules for the circulation of cars by people who have a vehicle registered with a company in another member-state of the European Union, but reside in Greece.
According to the decision, Greek residents will be able to use their foreign-plated vehicles in the country only if they are employed by a company based in another EU country where the vehicle is registered. To prove their employment status they must produce a translated job contract.
In the case of entrepreneurs, they will need to prove that their company is active through official documents, such as those showing social security payments.
The decision came after the Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE) identified numerous cases of tax evasion cases with cars registered in foreign countries in order to avoid paying luxury or road taxes.
