New road works for western Peloponnese

Transportation minister Michalis Chrysochoidis announced the opening of the bidding process for the highway linking Patras with Pyrgos in the Peloponnese.
According to the minister the bidding will be finalized by 30 June 2014 is budgeted at 340 million euros and will span 75 kilometers. As concerns delivery date, this is put during the first half of 2016.
At the same time Mr Chrysochoidis, the road span connecting Kalo Nero with Tsakona, will open for bids within the year. That work will be worth 140 million euros and will 37 kilometers long. The minister stated that there will be extensive infrastructure support works on the road between Pyrgos and Kalo Nero, since, as he said, because of the nature reserve listing of the area bulldozers cannot be brought in for major works.
Funding for both works announced will come from European funds planned for the period 2014-2020. the minister said the citizens of Ilia prefecture will see a number of major public works in their area. The minister stressed that such crucial pubic works will boost infrastructure and contribute to the region's extroversion.
