Justice Minister Refutes Resignation Rumors
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Justice minister Haralambos Athanasiou has called media rumors that he will resign ridiculous.
The statement was made from Brussels after the minister's meeting with EU Commission vice president Vivianne Redding.
Commenting on the release of the three Golden Dawn deputies, Mr. Athanasiou noted that, "we do not intervene in the work of justice. The pre-trial inquest is an ongoing process."
The minister added that one deputy was jailed and three were released under conditions because of the possibility of repeating offenses.
Mr. Athanasiou noted that "Greek justice is institutionally independent, and enjoys an enviable independence not available in other countries."
