A Turkish Cypriot, living in the occupied north part of the island is searching for the owners of land handed to him by the occupation authorities after the Greek Cypriots fled in 1974.
According to a report in Turkish Cypriot newspaper “Afrika” and a relevant article by Sener Levent in Greek Cypriot daily “Politis”, Erai Ozer says he is ready to return 4,500 square meters of land in the village of Voni and another 9,250 square meters in Palaikythros, which he hold under titles given to him by occupation authorities.
In a statement in “Politis,” Mr Ozer says he has maps for the Voni area that could help owners identify their land, but none for the area at Paklaikythro, but is ready to delineate the plot if someone provides him with a map.
Sener Levent, notes the uniqueness and the beneficent nature of Mr Ozer's act, and notes that Mr Ozer was witness to dramatic events in 1974, including the slaughter of 24 Greek Cypriot women and children. Of those people a child wounded in seven places was the sole survivor. When a Turkish officer finally arrived he had the surviving child point out the perpetrator, but despite almost killing him on the spot, the Turkish officer, let him go. Mr. Ozer says, that that man is still alive today.
