Union audit reveals financial misdeeds

Significant irregularities and financial misdeeds by secondary level unions/federations, totaling 10 million euros have been identified through extensive audits by the Police Financial Crimes Division.

The audit, which focused on the period 2007-2010, showed large irregularities in grants and aid, but also financial irregularities in outflow of funds for running costs, travel expenses, and allowances of union officials.
As mentioned in the police announcement, a total of 463 payment orders for compensation for trips within Greece and abroad, totaling 228,115.59 euros, were not accompanied by any document as proof of the actual total cost of the trips, or even if they took place.
From the documents of the trips showing dates, members of the federation seem to have been overcompensated by 23,264 euros, compared with projected for daily expenses, accommodation and mileage.
According to media reports the Federation of post office employees is the one implicated in the case.
As part of the thorough police investigation and by qualified and experienced staff of the Division of Economic Police examined, analyzed and used evidence obtained from the Directorate of Economic Police and data, which were included in the Audit Report of the General Inspector of Public Administration, concerning the legality of financial aid / grants from private entities, targeting the Federation.
Note that, this is secondary Federation unions of trade unions of workers above the legal entity, the legal form of which is a non-profit organization.
As found for the years 2007-2010, which research focused on, there were cases that did not satisfy the legislation and procedures in large inflows of funds to the Federation.

Irregularities included undocumented inflows to the tune of over 10 million euros. In addition, there were financial irregularities in cash outflows from the Federation to members, mostly related to travel costs, travel allowances and other expenses. The case files formed will be presented to the Athens Public Prosecutor.
