A major joint European police operation aimed at tackling illegal migration, planned and overseen by Greece for the first time, was carried out on May 5-11 in the context of the Greek EU Presidency, it was announced on Monday.
The 25 members of the Hellenic Air Force's 380 AWACS Squadron have returned to Greece after participating in NATO's “Joint Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance” (JISR) exercise that was held at Ørland, Norway under the name “Unified Vision 2014”.
Meanwhile, Greek National Defence Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos raised the issue of the serious situation emerging in Greek-Turkish relations (“the short period of tension” as described it) with his Turkish counterpart Ismet Yilmaz, whom he met at noon today in Brussels, on the sidelines of the meeting of NATO Defence Ministers .
