China’s Commerce ministry expressed its concerns over the Greek government's intention to halt the privatization of Piraeus Port Authority, which China’s COSCO group had bid for.

PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos addressed a joint meeting of the party’s new parliamentary group and the political council and referred to the election result saying it was a heavy defeat for PASOK, its wing and strategy and for him personally. He added that after the party's congress he will step down from PASOK's leadership.

Elena Koundoura was born in Athens. She was for many years a member of the Greek National Track and Field Team.
