Global Educational and Maritime Leaders Sign Significant "Blue Frontiers" Agreement at ACS Athens to Champion Ocean Stewardship (0)
ACS Athens proudly hosted the signing ceremony for the Blue Frontiers Program, an inspiring international partnership between Roger Williams University, the International Propeller Club Port of Piraeus, the Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation, and ACS Athens. This collaborative initiative establishes a strategic alliance dedicated to advancing maritime education and ocean stewardship for the next generation of leaders.
The program, centered on a commitment known as "Our Pledge," offers students a real-world summer exploration of the Earth’s oceans and the burgeoning global Blue economy. By combining academic rigor with scientific research and industry networking, the partners aim to inspire youth to protect and sustainably manage marine environments.
The event featured impactful remarks by ACS Athens President Dr. Peggy Pelonis and Mr. Costis Frangoulis, President of the International Propeller Club, Port of Piraeus, whose vision and leadership continue to champion environmental stewardship and youth opportunity. The ceremony also welcomed Dr. Dionysia-Theodora Avgerinopoulou, Greek Prime Minister’s Envoy for the Ocean and Chair of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Environmental Protection, who underscored the national and global importance of such initiatives.
A significant highlight of the partnership is the generous scholarship support provided by Mr. Frangoulis and the Propeller Club, which helps make this transformative experience accessible to students. Additional insights were shared during the ceremony by Ms. Carla Tanas, Dean of the Institute, and Ms. Beatriz Tintoré of the Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation, who both emphasized the vital intersection of research, sustainability, and experiential learning.
Through the Blue Frontiers summer program, students are challenged to embrace Conscious Global Citizenship—applying their skills, compassion, and learning to protect the oceans and improve life and living for future generations.
The official agreement was signed on May 13, 2026, at ACS Athens, marking a new chapter in international educational collaboration for the benefit of the global maritime community.

Support Greece through the THI COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund Campaign
Peter Poulos, the Executive Director of The Hellenic Initiative has made an appeal to Hellenes and Philhellenes around the globe to aid Greece and the organization Agigma Zois, which helps patients with weak immune systems, through the THI COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund Campaign.

Dear Friends of THI,
These are trying times for all of us and especially for our brothers and sisters in Greece. After 10 years of a prolonged financial crisis Greece was finally set to see the light of day only to have it darkened again by COVID-19. And to make matters worse the one bright spot in its economy, tourism, will now take the most serious blow, worsening the economic situation for thousands of individuals and families.
There is, however, a silver lining which is a relief for the present and bodes well for the future. I am referring to the way both the government and the people of Greece have risen to the occasion in the ways they have handled this crisis. It is also gratifying to see world leaders and the international media congratulating them.
As a crisis relief organization THI has a duty to respond to this new challenge in the best way we can, and so we have launched the THI COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund Campaign. In just a short time we have received generous support from Diaspora Greeks and Philhellenes all over the globe. We have also received many contributions from people living in Greece who have come to trust and value THI’s works.
One of the organizations we are helping is called Agigma Zois, which helps patients with weak immune systems. One of the people they are helping is a 38 year old man with final stage cancer. He is required to visit state run clinics to certify the level of his disease and allow him to receive his treatments. His wife, who is pregnant, cannot visit these places with him as it would put her and their unborn child at risk. Thanks to Agigma Zois he has managed to get the support he needs.

Greece and Cyprus Spectacular in Handling COVID-19 Pandemic
As the latest numbers show, Greece and Cyprus have been spectacular in protecting their citizens against the dangers of the global COVID-19 pandemic. While a number of courageous and creative actions contributed to these results, unlike many other countries, the leaders of Greece and Cyprus shut down their countries and distanced their citizens immediately proximate to their first-reported COVID-19 fatality.
