English fans turn Zakynthos beach town into "home turf" as World Cup celebrations erupt

Featured English fans turn Zakynthos beach town into "home turf" as World Cup celebrations erupt

English tourists transformed the streets of Laganas, Zakynthos, into what looked like a home-stadium celebration over the weekend as England advanced to the World Cup semifinals with a win over Norway.

Laganas has long been a favorite party destination for young British holidaymakers, and every bar screen in the resort town was tuned to the weekend match.

Fans dressed in England's white kit — or in considerably less — packed the streets to watch the team edge closer to the tournament title, fueling renewed hopes that England's long-running "It's coming home" chant might finally prove true.

According to footage shared on social media by the account "zantegeezer," the town's main strip was overwhelmed with celebrating fans after Jude Bellingham's goals sealed England's place in the semifinals. Images showed the crowd so dense that an ambulance struggled to make its way through the street, amid signs someone may have needed medical attention in the crush.

England's win capped a run of matches that has generated headlines beyond the pitch: Norwegian airline Norse Atlantic reportedly rebranded its livery with the British Airways logo after losing a wager tied to the tournament's outcome.

Fan celebrations tied to England's World Cup campaign have drawn attention across several European tourist destinations this summer, with Greek resort towns among the most visible gathering points for traveling supporters.
