A romantic gesture turned into a nightmare yesterday afternoon in Englouvi, Lefkada, when a young woman collapsed in front of her partner at the moment he proposed to her.
A romantic gesture turned into a nightmare yesterday afternoon in Englouvi, Lefkada, when a young woman collapsed in front of her partner at the moment he proposed to her.
According to information, the victim was shot five times while going to receive his children from his ex-wife. The Polish professor came to Greece from New Jersey, USA, because he had a court hearing last Thursday with his Greek ex-wife, regarding the modification of the professor's communication terms with his twin children, while their mother has sole custody.
This court hearing took place as the 43-year-old saw his children once a year, of which he could have them for a month at a time. This month he would have them either in America or in Poland, his country of origin.
However, some incredible incidents that had occurred recently had alarmed the 40-year-old economist, the children's mother, who wanted to modify the terms of communication and specifically prevent the professor from taking the children with him abroad.
One incident, quite serious, was the suicide attempt of his ex-partner in front of the twins, in America, but also another incident, equally serious, when he forgot them on a bench outside his home in the US, and while he was under the influence of alcohol.
So the 43-year-old came to Greece to resolve this issue.
The appointment with the child psychologist
The former couple seems to have accepted the new terms, and on Friday morning, hours before the murder, they visited the twins' child psychologist in Haidari, where they sat for 2.5 hours talking together about their children.
According to information, the 43-year-old showed that he fully understood the reasons why his children had become estranged from him and did not want to stay with him for a long time.
The murder in Agia Paraskevi
After the child psychologist, the Greek ex-wife arranged an appointment with him to come to her house in Agia Paraskevi to pick up the children at noon for a few hours until the evening.
This meeting never took place since while he was on Irini Street, almost below his ex-wife's house, a man shot him five times, killing him instantly.
His ex-wife identified the body, voluntarily gave her cell phone
The ex-wife saw the commotion in her neighborhood and, while the 43-year-old had not shown any signs of life, contacted the Police asking to know about the murder victim, while she went to the Authorities herself, where she also identified the body.
In her long testimony, and while she also voluntarily handed over her cell phone so that there would be no suspicion of her involvement in the murder, she recounted everything she had experienced with the 43-year-old.
The 43-year-old's addiction to alcohol and his constant and strange travels
She told the Authorities that she met the 43-year-old when she was also in America, and in a short time they got married and had twins, who are now ten years old.
The Greek economist said that her ex-husband's behavior was not what she imagined when she fell in love with him and married him.
His addiction to alcohol made him violent several times, and he had beaten her while she was pregnant.
Although he was a professor based in Berkeley, USA, he traveled very often, culminating in a trip he made to North Korea for a month while she was 8 months pregnant.
The separation before the pandemic
Shortly before the pandemic, the economist returned to Greece with the children, while she also filed for divorce, while he, for his part, filed for divorce in America.
The courts granted custody to the mother, while the 43-year-old would have daily contact with them, and he could see them for one month a year, where he usually took them to America. However, when he came to Greece, he could see them at certain times, as stipulated in the court decision.
The 40-year-old cannot imagine who killed him - What her lawyer says
Speaking to iefimerida, the legal representative of the victim's ex-wife and mother of his children, Alexandros Pasiatas, stressed that "my client was the one who voluntarily went to the Police, and also handed over her mobile phone. She cannot imagine who could have killed her ex-husband and father of her children. All she wants is the safety of her children and their mental health."
Crucial testimonies for evidence
Meanwhile, the police authorities are trying to find the pieces that will compose the puzzle of the murder of the 43-year-old professor from Poland, who, after the long testimony of the ex-wife, are turning to people who had some connection with the professor.
The owner of the Airbnb house that the 43-year-old had rented has already testified, while the victim's brother is also expected to provide information about the victim's life, who was notified by the 43-year-old's Greek ex-wife to collect his body and is expected from Poland.
The authorities have collected video footage from the area of the murder, as well as the victim's mobile phone, while the child psychologist is expected to be called to testify, as well as a relative of the victim's ex-wife with whom he met sometimes when the professor came to Greece.
The perpetrator as calm
However, eyewitnesses described the perpetrator as quite calm, who was wearing a mask and dark clothes and after opening fire and killing the 43-year-old, he fled on foot, showing that he knows the area quite well.
So far, the motive for the murder remains unknown and all scenarios are open, while the ex-wife, who has stated that she cannot know anyone who would want to kill her ex-husband, will likely be called for additional testimony in the coming days.
Greek authorities have issued a very high fire risk warning for the greater Athens region of Attica and the island of Evia for Saturday, placing the entire state emergency mechanism on heightened alert as a combination of hot, dry, and windy conditions creates a severe threat.
Elon Musk announced yesterday the founding of the "America Party," despite being ineligible to run for president himself – aiming to “break” the unified party apparatus just as the Theban general shattered the myth of Sparta's invincibility
A new twist emerged this past Saturday in the rift between US President Donald Trump and his former ally Elon Musk. The billionaire entrepreneur announced the formation of a new political party, claiming that Trump’s fiscal bill would drive the U.S. into bankruptcy.
Following a poll conducted via his social media platform X about the idea of creating a new political entity, Musk announced he would launch the “America Party” to give Americans back their “freedom.”
“Today, the America Party is being formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk wrote in a post on X.
“In a 2-to-1 ratio, you said you want a new political party—and you shall have it,” Musk emphasized, accusing both Republicans and Democrats of operating as a unified political machine against the interests of American citizens.
Citing the strategy used by Epaminondas in the Battle of Leuctra in 371 BCE, Musk said, “The way to break the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Sparta’s invincibility at Leuctra: Highly concentrated force at a specific location on the battlefield.”
Asked what made him dramatically change his stance on President Trump, Musk replied: “The increase of the deficit from an already insane $2 trillion under Biden to $2.5 trillion. That will bankrupt the country.”
Born in South Africa, Musk is ineligible to run for President of the United States, as candidates must be born on U.S. soil.
The Battle of Leuctra
The Battle of Leuctra is considered one of the most remarkable battles of antiquity in terms of military tactics.
This famous clash between the Spartans and Thebans took place in 371 BCE at Leuctra in Boeotia. It marked the end of the Peloponnesian League and elevated Thebes to a leading position in the Greek world.
At Leuctra, General Epaminondas implemented—for the first time in recorded military history—a new tactical formation that would earn him a reputation as one of the most brilliant generals of all time: the oblique phalanx.
This tactic involves concentrating force at a critical point to strike the enemy’s strongest unit with superior power. In this way, a weaker but well-led army could defeat a numerically superior opponent that was poorly led or misorganized.
Musk, then, uses this metaphorically: he wants to break the “uniparty system” by focusing concentrated political force on a strategic “weak spot.”
