NY: 16 Year Old Facing 25 Year Sentence
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A 16 year old student from the Bronx is facing a 25 year jail sentence, after shooting and seriously wounding two persons at the Bryant Park ice rink, in central Manhattan.
Corey Dunton appeared in court on Monday in order to plead for his actions. The charges against him are serious, and include attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon
Police said Dunton demanded a 20-year-old man give up his coat. When the man refused, investigators said Dunton left returning later with a gun and firing several shots into the crowd.
The intended target was shot once, but not seriously injured, but a 14-year-old bystander was shot in the back and it's possible he may never walk again.
So far, police have not been able to recover the weapon, while attorneys for Dunton are refuting the charges. In any event, the alleged perpetrator had made known on facebook that he was going out with a gun, making his legal position tenuous.
