Threats from Ankara for the French military presence in Cyprus: We have the power to give the strictest response

Featured Threats from Ankara for the French military presence in Cyprus: We have the power to give the strictest response

The Turkish Ministry of Defense has issued new threats against Cyprus and those who cooperate militarily with it, on the occasion of the new agreement between France and the “Greek Cypriot administration”.

According to Ankara, the agreement is “illegal”, as France is not a guarantor of Cyprus.

Ankara claims that this development violates the 1960 agreements, ignores the rights of Turkish Cypriots and may contribute to the destabilization of the island.

At the same time, the Turkish Ministry of Defense reiterated that Turkey will continue to protect the interests and security of the TRNC, while warning against any military cooperation or alliance that, according to the Turkish position, is directed against Ankara.

“We reiterate the fact that any military alliance targeting the rights and interests of Turkey and the TRNC has no chance of success against Turkey,” the Turkish Ministry of National Defense said.

The same statement stressed that “the Turkish Armed Forces have the strength and determination to give the strictest response to hostile positions that threaten the security of Turkish Cypriots.”

Ankara reiterates that it will continue to closely monitor developments and take, as it says, all necessary measures to protect its interests and those of the Turkish Cypriot side.
