One hundred and thirty delegates from all over the world are taking part in the 7th International Conference on the Black Sea in Antiquity to be held in Thessaloniki from September 26 to September 30, 2022, in which announcements will also be made about recent archaeological finds from Greek colonies, such as Sozopol.

Greece’s shipping ministry on Thursday announced that eight Greek-flagged vessels were in the northern Black Sea region this week, along with a Greek-owned ship on the Malta registry. A total of 66 Greek nationals were aboard the vessels.

The Russian RIA news agency has reported a remarkable find of an ancient Greek Corinthian helmet. The discovery was made in the Taman Peninsula in the southwest of Russia. The helmet was unearthed during the excavation of a Greek necropolis in the area by the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IA RAS). The helmet is one of the most remarkable discoveries yet made at this site. The helmet now raises questions as to the nature of Greek society in the ancient Black Sea area and its contacts with the wider Greek world.
