The reaction of Turkey after the rather surprising mid-Week announcement by the Greek government on maritime spatial planning came as a surprise to Athens. Both the neighbor’s reference to Greece‘s unilateral actions and the announcement of the submission of the corresponding Turkish map to international organizations such as UNESCO and the UN, had already been discussed behind the closed doors of the Kysea, which met yesterday under the prime minister at the Maximos Mansion.

In a climate of intense concern and with rhetoric that borders on alarmism, the Turkish media is reacting to the news of Greece’s imminent acquisition of Exocet anti-ship missiles and another Belharra frigate from France.

The need to have a common defence umbrella between member states of the EU and the necessary financial tools to support it was mentioned by the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, on the occasion of his participation in the informal Council of Foreign Affairs and Defence of the European Union with the participation of the Ministers of Defence, which was organised by the Polish Presidency in Warsaw.
