Ancient necropolis on Chios

An archeological sounding in a plot at the are known as Psomi, on Chios revealed part of an ancient necropolis of the 6th and 7th century bC.

Drop in Greek account deficit

In a report, the country's central bank said that in May 2014 the current account balance showed a deficit of 246 million euros, against a 70 million surplus in May 2013, as a result of a rise in the deficits of mainly the trade balance and also the income account balance, as well as a year-on-year shift of the current transfers balance from surplus to deficit.

Emails alert citizens for due taxes

Tax bureaus across the country are expected to begin sending emails to around two million taxpayers that have to pay the first income tax installment at the end of July.

Civil servants down by a quarter million

The number of civil servants dropped by over 267,095, in the period 2009-2013, from 952,625 in 2009 to 675,530 in 2013. The outflows are due to retirement, but mainly due to the dramatic reduction in contract employees, whose contracts were no longer updated.
