No Social Media until 15 – Ban for Elementary & Middle School children on the way

The Greek government is now moving towards prohibiting children under the age of 15 from accessing social media. Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis announced the proposal by the Ministry of Digital Governance for the “Kids Wallet,” a dedicated parental control application, as well as the development of a comprehensive national strategy to tackle internet addiction among minors.

Greek National Guard open to women

In a landmark decision, Greece will now allow women to serve in its National Guard. This historic change, announced by Deputy Minister of National Defense Ioannis Kefalogiannis, permits women who are members of the reserve forces and permanent residents of their service regions to volunteer for the National Guard.

Free access to medicine for 310,000 pensioners and “hazard pay” for 150,000 uniformed personnel

With two “last-minute” announcements, the year and the cycle of announcements of new benefits for 2024 comes to a close. In his speech before the new state budget was passed in parliament yesterday, in addition to announcing the measures for banks, Kyriakos Mitsotakis also outlined a small package of benefits (“exhausting to the fullest the fiscal margins,” he said), emphasizing 130.000 minimum wage earners who are exempt from paying for their medicines and will get them for free, and additionally 150,000 uniformed workers who will be recognized for the dangerousness of the services they provide.

Another gangland execution in Athens

One more mafia-style execution in Greece took place on Sunday with the deadly ambush of two men outside a cafe in Athens’ Thracomacedones district, resulting in one 45 year old being killed on the spot and a second man seriously injured.
