Naim Elghandour, 62, president of the Muslim Association of Greece expressed the bitterness of the Muslim community in Athens over the mosque erected at Votanikos in an interview to Thema Radio 104.6.

The Athens Mosque is expected to be ready and in operation next April. The religious site is under constriction at the former parking lot of the Navy Car at Votanikos.

Lawmakers on Thursday approved with a wide majority a provision to accelerate the construction of a mosque in western Athens, in the area of Votanikos, with 206 votes in favour and 24 against, in a total of 230 MPs who were present.
