Nearly 40% of the forests in Greece’s Attica region have been destroyed by wildfires over the past nine years, according to a new analysis by the METEO unit of the National Observatory of Athens.

Greek police arrested two men trying to steal food stored in a warehouse that was designated for the victims of the Attica fire-stricken areas.

"Attica experienced an inexpressible human tragedy. Greece has experienced a national tragedy", said Prime Minister Alexis Tsirpas following the conclusion of a meeting on the wildfires that was held at the Technological and Cultural Park of Lavrio on Tuesday.
