After twenty years of adventures, the process of approvals and licenses began so that the construction of the Spinalonga electricity project can start. A few days ago, the municipal council of Agios Nikolaos, Crete approved the project as well as the terms of the relevant contract with HEDNO, the operator of electricity transmission networks. Now the only thing that remains is the approval of the Court of Auditors to proceed with the implementation of the project without further delays.

Greece's Independent Power Transmission Operator SA (IPTO) on Wednesday announced the successful completion of a 24-hour electrification test of the first submarine cable that will connect the island of Crete with mainland power grids in Attica and the Peloponnese.
