Col. Matthew Bogdanos named recipient of 2026 Marica Vilcek Prize in Art History
Col. Matthew Bogdanos, the Greek-American prosecutor who leads the Manhattan District Attorney’s Antiquities Trafficking Unit, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Marica Vilcek Prize in Art History, a major honor recognizing careers that shape the study, protection, and return of cultural heritage. The prize carries a $100,000 cash award, but Bogdanos declined the money, asking the Vilcek Foundation to donate the funds to nonprofit organizations of his choosing, according to the Orthodox Observer
Clean Monday: How Koulouma will be celebrated across the Municipalities of Attica
The tradition of Clean Monday will be honored by most municipalities across Attica, both within and beyond the Athens basin, with Lenten foods, music, dancing, and of course the traditional lagána flatbread. Outdoor communal tables will welcome residents to enjoy the day, while children will fly their kites. Almost all municipalities have scheduled musical programs. Notably, the municipalities of Peristeri and Ilioupoli promise the largest lagána.
