Clean Monday: How Koulouma will be celebrated across the Municipalities of Attica
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The tradition of Clean Monday will be honored by most municipalities across Attica, both within and beyond the Athens basin, with Lenten foods, music, dancing, and of course the traditional lagána flatbread. Outdoor communal tables will welcome residents to enjoy the day, while children will fly their kites. Almost all municipalities have scheduled musical programs. Notably, the municipalities of Peristeri and Ilioupoli promise the largest lagána. So if you are in Athens, or arriving on Monday, here's all the great stuff you can crash and be treaqted like part of the family.
As in past decades, the traditional meeting point for Athenians will once again be Philopappou Hill, where people will fly kites and celebrate under the Attic sky. The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens will welcome the public with music from 11:00 a.m., while free Lenten delicacies will be offered. The municipality has also organized a traditional island-style celebration with Nikos Oikonomidis and Kyriaki Spanou, starting at 11:30 a.m.
