The international community should officially recognize the Genocide of the Pontian Greeks, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Sunday (May 19), Remembrance Day of the Pontian Genocide.

"Taking responsibility for the heinous acts of the past and sincere remorse are examples of the courage and responsibility of leaders who look forward to a future of peaceful coexistence and prosperity of peoples," President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou said on Tuesday, May 19, which has been established as Remembrance Day for the Genocide of Pontian Greeks.

President of the Greek Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos attended a liturgy at the Church of Panagia Soumela on Mt. Vermion, northern Greece, on the occasion of Thursday's Dormition of the Virgin Mary, and a memorial service which marked the centennial of the genocide of 353,000 Pontian Greeks.
