Athens’ storied Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the iconicancient  open-air theater beneath the Acropolis, has closed its gates for at least three years as a crucial preservation project begins.

The Ministry of Culture, through the Ephorate of Antiquities of Preveza and the Directorate for the Restoration of Ancient Monuments, is proceeding with the restoration of the stage building and the backstage of the great theater in Ancient Nikopolis, including specific interventions in the overall plan to highlight the archaeological site.

The contract for the restoration of the summer palace in the former royal estates of Tatoi was signed yesterday between the Ministry of Culture and the consortium of companies ERETVO, ETVO and Nirikos Techniki, which was the only scheme that participated in the tender, with an offer of 11.5 million euros.
