In a highly provocative letter to the UN General Assembly Director, which was subsequently made public by the UN, the Turkish permanent representative, Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu accused the Greek Cypriots of committing ethnic cleansing against the Turkish Cypriots between 1963-1974.

Turkey said on Friday that Turkish Cypriots had rights to a share of the island’s offshore resources, days after the Greek Cypriot government agreed a revenue deal with a U.S. firm over a gas find in the eastern Mediterranean.

A U.S. State Department delegate stated that there are currently no scheduled discussions with Turkish-Cypriot leaders, during the United Nations General Assembly meetings that are being held in New York shortly.
