U.S. Delegate States No Turkish-Cypriot Scheduled Meetings
A U.S. State Department delegate stated that there are currently no scheduled discussions with Turkish-Cypriot leaders, during the United Nations General Assembly meetings that are being held in New York shortly.
As reported by Parikiaki, when questioned, the official claimed, "we have no meetings to announce at this time". He added, "In previous years, on the sidelines of UN General Assembly, U.S. officials had the opportunity to meet with prominent representatives of the Turkish Cypriot community in New York".
The American representative further commented, "such meetings reinforce U.S. support for UN-led Cyprus negotiations aimed at reuniting Cyprus as a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation". The United Nations believes that only the southern Greek-Cypriot territory is legal and terms the Turkish-Cypriot side as "legally invalid".
