How an investment in the Greek defense industry’s production base supports the implementation of the EU’s new defense doctrine

The successive crises that Europe has faced in recent years – the Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis, inflation and the most recent developments in Israel and Syria – have significantly shaken the European status quo, creating the need to develop a new strategy focused on autonomy in the critical sectors of health, defense, energy and the economy in general. This is because it has become clear that this lack of coherent policymaking significantly limits the EU’s ability and response time to global challenges.

German Greek weapons co-production

A major deal was signed between Hellenic Armament Systems (EAS) and German weapon systems group Rheinmetall, which includes 12 system categories (ammunition and ancillary equipment) at the ministry of defense in the presence of defense minister Dimitris Avramopoulos.
