U.S. & Greece Ratify Military Cooperation Agreement
Yesterday brought the ratification of a strategic cooperation agreement between the American ATK corporation and the Greek Defense Systems (EAS), that was conducted at the Greek Defense Ministry.
The accord contains the co-creation of 94,669 combat ammunition and 14,448 military training ammunition for the Apache helicopters, that are valued at 12.7 million euros, as reported by ANA-MPA. The agreement also calls for the creation of 40 mm 40L60 projectiles by the U.S. Air Force.
Under the EAS-ATK contract, the two participants aim to co-produce 40 X 53 mm ammuntion for America, along with 20 X 173 mm and 30 X 173 mm ammo for the global market. It was noted that the two entities may co-create ATK weaponry metal components for the worldwide market. It has been reported that Aigio's EAS branch will be used by ATK, regarding freight movement to the Middle East and the Balkans.
U.S. Ambassador to Greece David Pearce deemed the agreement "good news in the midst of the economic crisis" and referred to the solid working relationship between the United States and Greece, in the security and defense sectors. Defense Minister Dimitiris Avramopoulos commented on the productive and mutually beneficial act by the two nations.
