The Art Institute of Chicago Holds Byzantium Exhibit
The Heaven and Earth: Art of Byzantium from Greek Collections exhibit is being held at The Art Institute of Chicago until Sunday, February 15th.
The exhibition showcases 63 pieces from the early Byzantine and Christian eras in the Mary and Michael Jaharis Galleries of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Art. The artwork debuted at Washington, D.C.'s National Gallery of Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
Many featured items have never been revealed outside of Greece, that include icons, mosaics, silver, liturgical textiles and more. A highlight of the exhibit includes the 14th century Icon of Saint Prokopios.
Heaven and Earth: Art of Byzantium from Greek Collections was arranged by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, with the assistance of the Athens Benaki Museum, and in association with the National Gallery of Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum.
