Greek Australian Film Festival Awards “Maiden”

  • Written by

The short film Maiden was honored with an award during the Greek Australian Film Festival, directed by Stephen Kararis.

The movie is set in Brisbane during the 1970s, and focuses on a Greek greyhound trainer who wants a better life for his family. The Greek-Australian film received a $1,000 award under the Shorts Australian subcategory.

The Festival's panel of judges felt the performance spoke to the heart of Greek Australian cinema, according to Neos Kosmos. During the director's acceptance speech that was offered by the Shorts Australian curatorial delegate Katerina Kotsonis, Kararis described the production as a small budget film that was created out of a labour of love.
