The documentary "The Woman Behind Elgin", signed by Mimi Denisi, has completed filming and will be broadcast next season by ERT
The filming of Mimi Denisi's dramatized documentary "The Woman Behind Elgin" has been completed. The work sheds light on unknown aspects of the theft of the Parthenon Sculptures through the letters of Mary Nisbet, wife of Lord Elgin.
The creator relied on the book of Lady Elgin's great-grandson with her letters, which describe in detail how the entire operation was set up.
Lady Elgin, with the frivolity and lightness of her age but also with the arrogance of her position, describes with admiration the chronicle of the theft of the Sculptures. Through the letters, both her own personal involvement and Elgin's motives, which were the decoration of their tower and his personal projection, are clearly visible.
The documentary, which will be presented for the first time in the Fall, sheds light from a different perspective on the theft of the Sculptures, but also on a different era in which cultural plunder was considered a sign of prestige and power.
This is a dramatized documentary that combines the cinematic representation of Elgin's story, with the narration of the events through narration. Important archaeologists and historians analyze the events and major international personalities take a stand on the issue. It is perhaps the largest production of a dramatized documentary that has been made so far in Greece, produced by LUMAD in collaboration with ERT.
The script is by Mimi Denisi and the direction is by Katerina Evangelakou. It should be noted that the Historical Advisor of the documentary is the General Director of the Acropolis Museum, Professor Nikos Stampolidis.
The filming took place in Athens, Mytilene, Aegina, Larissa, Eleusis, Lavrio, London and Istanbul, recounting the historical journey of the Parthenon Sculptures - from 19th century Athens to the modern debate about their repatriation.
Starring: Lefteris Zampetakis, Maria Englezaki, Michalis Marinos, Dimitris Kouroumbalis, Nathan Thomas, Duncan Skinner, Manolis Gerapetritis and 40 more actors.
Mimi Denisi was cast in a surprise role, with no spoilers presented.
