Mick Jagger's longtime girlfriend and acclaimed fashion designer L'Wren Scott hung herself to death with a scarf tied to a doorknob, inside her Manhattan apartment today.
After Scott texted her assistant to come to over, she arrived and found her an hour and a half later at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning, according to police. Scott, 49 was already dead by the time paramedics arrived at her chic Chelsea apartment. She did not leave a note and was fully robed. According to sources, her 6-foot-3-inch frame was kneeling down when she took her life. Her passing is a suspected suicide and not thought to be foul play. Scott's body was taken for an autopsy by the Medical Examiner's Office.
Scott is an extremely successful clothing designer whose frocks have been worn by First Lady Michelle Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker, Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie. Her many famous friends describe her as elegant, magical, very funny and intelligent. Born Luann Bambrough, Scott was adopted by a Mormon family and raised in Utah. She was discovered at a Calvin Klein shoot by fashion designer Bruce Weber and began modeling in Paris soon after. She modeled for premier brands such as Chanel before redefining herself as a top tier stylist in California.
Mick Jagger began dating the designer in 2001 and received news of her death in Australia, during his Rolling Stones Tour. He is: "...completely shocked and devastated" by her death. Designer Michael Houghton claimed: "I spoke to people in the Stones camp...Everyone is shocked. She seemed to have her career going well and everyone assumed things were fine between her and Mick". Close friend Nicole Kidman's rep added: "Nicole and L'Wren were friends for 25 years...Nicole is heartbroken and in shock right now and unable to say anything".
