Health ministry braces for Ebola
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Ebola is rapidly spreading as Greece is bracing itself for the possibility of an attack. In the framework of preparations, Health Ministry officials are meeting with representatives of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (KEELPNO) today to discuss measures being taken to deal with a possible Ebola epidemic.
Moreover, a special quarantine unit to treat possible Ebola cases has been set up at Amalia Fleming Hospital in the northern Attica suburb of Melissia.
Greek Health Minister Makis Voridis told Antenna TV station on Thursday that Greece has been ready to deal with the disease sand said that directives have also been sent to airports, ports and border crossings informing staff of the symptoms they should look out for.
The Greek authorities are planning more drills over the coming days to check their preparedness in the wake of the six cases reported in Spain, suspected death of a 58-year-old British man due to Ebola at the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) and possible case at the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus.
So far there have been no cases of Ebola reported in Greece. Three cases have been treated as suspected Ebola infections, however they proved to be cases of malaria.
