Dendias takes over defense portfolio

Nikos Dendias is taking over duties as the new minister of defense, as current incumbent Dimitris Avramopoulos is leaving the job to become commissioner in Brussels, starting tomorrow 1 November.
Mr Dendias will be replaced at ministry of development by Trikala MP Kostas Skrekas.
Meanwhile, prime minister Samaras met today with Mr Avramopoulos, ahead of his departure. Mr Avramopoulos will be taking up the post of commissioner for immigration and internal affairs. Earlier on Friday, Mr Avramopoulos, as one of his last acts as defense minister convened the ministry's political and military leadership and the boards of the three armed forces.
Yesterday mr Avramopoulos met with foreign minister and government vice president Evangelos Venizelos.
