Good news for retail over weekend
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The president of the national Confederation of Greek Merchants Vasilis Korkidis noted that this past weekend was good for retail, adding however, that the market has shown that seven Sundays with open stores are adequate.
“It was a good weekend for Greek markets,” Mr Korkidis told SKAI television after the first weekend of the intermediate sales period that began on Saturday and will end on 10 November.
Mr Korkidis stated that name brands were most popular because of sales. He did note that the market showed that seven Sundays a year are enough and that matter is an issue with justice. On Friday the Council of State will look into the issue of stores being open on Sunday, after the Suspension Section of the council ordered the suspension of the measure for openings on all Sundays. This past Sunday stores were open.
Mr Korkidis reiterated that the position of the merchants is for the retail sector to decide for themselves on which Sundays stores should remain open, according to the needs of the specific area.
