Former royal estate to undergo restoration
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Immediate rescue works in buildings of the former royal estate at Tatoi to avoid further damage, have been launched the Curators of Modern Monuments of Attica (ENMA) of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Specifically, it is the House Winery and the chief gardener's estate, and the roof of the Church of the Resurrection Cemetery, which has started changing. Also, money disbursed for direct interventions, totaling 70,000 euros, have been earmarked for refurbishment of the forestry cabin, the carpenter's shop, the smithy and the personnel building. Depending on funding, projects will be extended to other buildings in the historic core.
The Friends of the Tatoi Estate, an association set up for the protection and promotion of the area, issued a statement warmly welcoming these initiatives, saying that "the state after years of neglect has taken effective measures to protect and rescue the former Royal Estate of Tatoi,” stressing that it will stand as a substantial supporter throughout this effort. “It is now clear that the Ministry of Culture is the only one of more than 10 public sector bodies to produce substantial work at the former Royal Estate,” added the Association, which inter alia informed that "once materials from the collapse are removed from the winery building, the Friends of the Tatoi Estateare ready to entrust the study for the restoration of the building.” As stated in the announcement, "the architectural design will be done by the architectural firm Altera Pars through the exclusive funding of the Association."
