EBEA Chairman: No to New Memorandum
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
"We should not repeat the mistake and enter a new memorandum," was the statement made by Kostantinos Mihalos presidentof the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA), when asked to comment on talks about the 2014 budget between the Troika and the government.
As he noted, EBEA had pointed out in May 2010 when the first memorandum was signed that the specific policy was unfair and ineffective, adding that the mistake of entering a new memorandum that will hinder growth should not be made.
Mr. Mihalos also stated that that country's economy has made great strides and lenders should understand that only targeted interventions should be made and not sweeping horizontal measures.
Mr. Mihalos also blamed public statements by European officials about the state of the economy for damaging Greek entrepreneurship, and urged the government to take a firm stance vis-a-vis the troika.
