Hellenic Navy helicopter rescues sailor from sinking vessel
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
An extremely difficult rescue operation from a shipwreck took place yesterday morning, by a Hellenic Navy helicopter under extreme weather and winds of 6 Beaufort intensity southeast of Hydra. A while ago, the Navy released a five minute video of the operation.
More specifically, at the request of the "Joint Search and Rescue Center," an S-60B "Aegean Hawk" helicopter of the Navy Helicopter Command Navy, under adverse weather conditions, rescued a man of Greek descent, who was traveling in a semi-submerged dinghy after flooding in the area southeast of Hydra island.
The hapless sailor was transferred to the base of Naval Aviation at Kotroni Marathon, where he was provided with first aid and then taken by ambulance to hospital.
