Naval mine found off Crete
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Divers who had been diving in the sea area Mononaftis, at Agia Pelagia, Crete, were faced with an unexpected spectacle.
While diving one of the divers saw a huge worn metal ball and realized that it was a naval mine.
Immediately they alerted Heraklion port authorities and found that the mine is a relic of the Second World War. It lay in rather shallow waters wedged between rocks.
Heraklion Port authorities moved quickly, and on Tuesday morning a specialized team of the Navy was rushing to the spot to neutralize the mine.
You can see mine in the following impressive video that was shot by divers and cameramen Michael Fragkiadakis, Nontas Gkiaourakis, and Kostas Petrakis.
