Spiegel: Greece rife with nepotism and corruption
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The latest issue of German magazine “Spiegel” is titled: “Fighting Corruption: Greek officials are inept”. The magazine states that “Greece suffers from nepotism and corruption”.
“Previous government tried to combat the problem in a… ‘lukewarm’ manner”, stated the article, continuing by describing the Lagarde list issue. The Lagarde list contains names of hundreds of tax evaders and was kept in the dark by succesive ministers.
Spiegel mentions former FinMin Yiorgos Papakonstantinou who is under trial for “tampering with evidence and removing the names of his relatives from the document”.
The German magazine wonders: “The new Tsipras government promised a mindset change. How can this happen?”.
