Sabalenka's Greek partner succumbed to... pressure and proposed to her

With a sparkling diamond in a romantic setting, George Frangoulis proposed to Aryna Sabalenka, and she of course said yes, and the couple is expected to get married soon.
In a joint Instagram post, without many words, the Belarusian tennis star and the Greek businessman announced that they will get married. "You and me forever. March 3, 2026," they wrote in their post.
The video shows how George Frangoulis set up a stage full of pink and white flowers along with enough candles to create a romantic atmosphere so that he could ask the... big question to his partner, who seemed moved.
Sabalenka's pressure on her Greek partner for marriage
The 27-year-old athlete from Belarus is in the best shape of her life, as she is almost permanently ranked No. 1 in the WTA Women's World Rankings, while in her career she has won a total of 22 titles and has earned (exclusively from tournaments) over 46 million dollars
In recent years, when she has proven her worth on the courts and rarely finds an opponent, she has acquired a particularly extroverted persona that is not common in tennis. She produces a lot of content on social media, and is also friends with Stefanos Tsitsipas' ex-girlfriend, Paula Bandosa. With whom she also uploads many videos together.
In early January, after winning the Brisbane tournament in Australia, the Belarusian tennis player thanked the organizers after the award and turned her head towards her partner, Giorgos Frangoulis. "I want to say thank you to my partner and I hope to call him something else in a little while," she told him and continued: "Let's put some extra pressure on him, okay?" He smiled and it seemed... he got the message
However, the... bells had started ringing several months earlier, after a match for the US Open at Louis Armstrong Stadium. Sabalenka was then facing Leila Fernandez with the giant screen of the stadium recording a spectator in the stands proposing to his partner. After her victory, she revealed that she was moved and sent a message to her partner.
“I think it’s the first time that someone has proposed to me during a match. It was a very sweet moment, but I was trying not to start smiling, because it’s very cute and I think they’re very happy right now. I was just trying to stay focused on my game, and it was a wonderful moment, and like I said on the court, I wish them a happy marriage (smiling),” she initially commented and when asked if she hoped “someone else in the audience got ideas,” the Belarusian said “I don’t want that kind of proposal. But I looked at my boyfriend. Yes. No pressure.”
Who is George Frangoulis, who will marry Aryna Sabalenka
The couple was first seen together in April 2024, a month after the tragic and untimely death of Sabalenka's ex-boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov, who committed suicide in March 2024.
In an August 2024 interview with PEOPLE magazine, Sabalenka spoke openly about how Frangoulis was her biggest source of support while she was trying to overcome her pain. "It was a very difficult time and I was very happy to have him by my side, always encouraging me, always making sure we did something fun," she said.
Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, and originally from Thessaloniki, George Frangoulis studied law at FAAP (Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado) in 2014, he told Forbes Brazil in July 2023. However, he added that he did not graduate or take the bar exam in Brazil. “I always knew I would not be a lawyer,” Frangoulis said. “What I really wanted was to be an entrepreneur.”
He then founded Oakberry. The brand is linked to his Brazilian roots, as the product’s main ingredient, acai berries, are harvested in the Amazon rainforest. “Acai, as a fruit, only exists thanks to the survival culture of communities living on the banks of rivers in the Amazon rainforest,” Frangoulis told Forbes Brazil in June 2023.
Frangoulis founded Oakberry, a superfood brand specializing in acai products, in December 2016. The brand quickly gained popularity for its acai bowls and smoothies and expanded rapidly, with over 700 stores in more than 40 countries. The company raised $67 million in funding in late 2023, further cementing its position as a leading force in the superfood market. Since 2024, it has also had stores in Greece, while speaking to newmoney.gr he had stated that "I am Greek, so there was no way I could do business in 45 countries and not include Greece among them. Even if I lost money from here - which of course does not happen - I would not leave it out. I consider myself 100% Greek."
