Lightning injures 19 at Knossos
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Nineteen Russian tourists were struck by lightning during a tour of the archeological grounds of Knossos.
At 09.30 am the Russian tourist group was gathered under a large tree holding umbrellas because of the prevailing showers. It was there that they were struck by lightning.
A 36 year old woman is in critical condition in a coma and has been taken to Venizeleion hospital. Nine were only lightly wounded, while another nine are still currently in hospital. Among those injured were two minors, and a pregnant woman.
The incident is seen as unique, and it must be noted that the archeological site is equipped with lightning rods.
