Turkish MP asks Turkey to aid Greece
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
"If Greece asks help from Turkey, then we will consider paying the Greek debt," said progressive MP of the pro-Kurdish HDP (Democratic Peoples Party) party in Turkey Ertuğrul Kürkçü.
Mr Kürkçü urged the Turkish government to stand by Greece and asked Turkey to take over the Greek debt of 1.6 billion euros Greece or give an interest-free loan.
As he stated, "Turkey can assume the debt of 1.6 billion euros. This will be the best help that we can give our neighbor in these difficult days. In return we will gain the friendship of the Greek people and create opportunity to turn the Aegean into a sea of peace. Humanitarian aid given by Turkey in international institutions in 2013 amounted to 1.9 billion dollars. Turkey has the potential to offer such assistance. It can do this even through an interest-free loan. "
On the occasion of these statements, Turkish journalists, according to a report in Hurriyet, asked the Turkish Economy Minister today if the government could do something. Minister Nihat Zeymbekci replied characteristically: "If Greece asked Turkey for help, then we would consider paying the Greek debt."
