Pensioners queue up for 120 euros
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Long queues are the rule outside nearly 1,000 banks serving pensioners without bank cards who may withdraw up to 120 euros from their pensions.
In a late night decision, Alpha Bank, Eurobank and the National Bank announced that they would serve customers on an alphabetical basis, while Piraeus Bank will serve customers on “first come, first serve” basis.
The Ministry of Finance posted a list of banks that will be open from Wednesday until Friday for pensioners. Aside from withdrawing 120 euros, pensioners will also be able to have cash cards issued so that may withdraw funds from ATMs.
Initially Ministry considerations were for pensioners to withdraw 240 euros, however due to the panic caused by the introduction of capital controls on Monday cash reserves have been dwindling and a lower cap was decided.
