Judiciary Protest Lax Security with Walkouts on Monday

Judicial staff, including judges, will walk off the job on Monday demanding improved security at courts after the stabbing of a judicial secretary by a man facing drug charges at the capital's main court complex.

The union of judges called a five-hour strike for Monday, beginning at 10 am, while the union of court employees called a three-hour walkout from noon.

Justice Minister Haralambos Athanasiou said Prime Minister Antonis Samaras had asked for security to be intensified in courts across the country to ensure that other judicial officials do not face similar assaults.
