Tsipras declines meeting with ND leader
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
There is no room for a programmatic convergence between main opposition New Democracy and ruling coalition partner SYRIZA or the forming of a government in the current parliament, government sources said on Sunday, explaining Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ refusal to meet with ND leader Vangelis Meimarakis who is in the process of an exploratory mandate granted on Friday.
“New Democracy President Vangelis Meimarakis contacted Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras this morning to request a meeting in the framework of his exploratory mandate. The prime minister explained to the leader of ND that there’s no chance of forming a government in the current parliament, which is why he immediately handed the mandate to the President of the Republic,” the sources said.
For this reason, they explained, he explained to him that there’s no point in meeting to discuss forming a government as Tsipras believes that there’s no possibility or chance of a convergence between the two parties.
