No hint of when capital controls will be lifted
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Former Finance Minister Giorgos Stathakis at a political debate on the future of Greek economy organized by the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce admitted that he was not able to say when capital controls imposed by the SYRIZA government could be lifted.
“As a politician I will tell you that capital controls will be lifted in two months. But, as an economist I cannot say exactly, because every prediction is risky,” said Mr. Stathakis
However, Mr. Stathakis stated that capital controls would probably be lifted after the recapitalization of banks, which might be completed by the end of the year.
